Associate Professor Chris Alexopoulos is the principal cardiologist at Port Macquarie Cardiology.

Associate Professor Chris Alexopoulos completed his fellowship in Cardiology and Echocardiography at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney after graduating from the University of New South Wales with Honours in 1999. He has been a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand since 2008. He is also the Director of Cardiology Services at Port Macquarie Base Hospital, having worked as a cardiologist caring for patients in our region since 2008. He has been instrumental in the expansion of all cardiology services in the Hastings Macleay region.

He cares for a broad group of patients with specific interests in diagnostic cardiac imaging, coronary disease, valvular heart disease, heart failure, cardiac rhythm disturbances and preventative cardiology.

Associate Professor Alexopoulos performs specialised diagnostic cardiac procedures, including transesophageal echocardiograms at Port Macquarie Base Hospital. He is the principal investigator for both hospital and outpatient clinical research trials.

Associate Professor Alexopoulos is a Senior Conjoint Lecturer in Medicine at the University of NSW and continues to teach medical students through the UNSW Rural Clinical School, Port Macquarie Campus. He is a supervisor for cardiology advanced training and physician training.

Associate Professor Alexopoulos has been an examiner for the Royal Australian College of Physicians. He is invited to give frequent presentations to a broad range of audiences including general practitioners, cardiac support groups, allied health staff, physicians and cardiologists. He regularly attends local and international cardiology conferences.
